The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate of any industrialized country in the world. More than two women die every day in the US from pregnancy-related causes - 30,000 nearly die every year. And while the vast majority of countries have reduced their maternal mortality rates, for the past 25 years the rate has increased dramatically in the US, with African American women most at-risk. Preventable maternal mortality is not just a public health issue; it is a human rights crisis.
